Job Description

The advanced practice provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) within the acute care hospital setting works in collaboration with, and is an integral member of, a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP provides comprehensive care on the inpatient Breast Surgery service. Responsibilities include performing complete history & physicals, ordering and collecting data using appropriate assessment techniques, serving as first responder for nursing and house staff in patient status changes, assessing risks associated with acute and complex chronically ill patients, clinical skills such as chest tube insertion and removal, arterial and central line insertion and removal, FAST exams, attending and conducting assessments on level 1 and 2 traumas, attending daily trauma rounds, collaborating with interdisciplinary health care team in diagnosis, managing diagnostic tests, formulating differential diagnoses, diagnosing complications and ordering interventions, formulating and implementing plan of care using evidence-based practice guidelines, prescribing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, performing advanced procedures consistent with privileges, maintaining communication and collaboration with healthcare team, facilitating continuity of care, documenting patient progress and care plans timely and accurately, demonstrating professional practice behaviors including mentoring, education, research engagement, participation in grand rounds and specialty meetings, maintaining CEUs and professional memberships. Qualifications include Master’s Degree, National Board Certification as an Acute Care Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant, and BLS/ACLS certification.
