Job Title: R&D Manager

Location: Onsite in McMinnville, Oregon

Salary: $80,000-$110,000

R&D Manager:

The R&D Manager will oversee a team of Food Scientists in developing new and innovative food products, with a focus on the bar segment. This pivotal role drives the product development process from concept to commercialization, ensuring products are innovative and manufacturable.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and mentor a team of 4 Food Scientists, providing direction and support for various projects.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team.

Product Development and Documentation:

  • Collaborate with Sales and customers to identify and develop new product opportunities.
  • Ensure all existing products are thoroughly documented for consistent manufacturing and order fulfillment.
  • Develop and maintain SOPs and keep the database updated with new product information and ingredient specifics.

Intellectual Property and Compliance:

  • Protect the company's intellectual property by enforcing strict confidentiality and research policies.
  • Stay updated with industry standards and regulations by engaging in continuous education and professional development.

Operational Support and Improvement:

  • Assist in the production startup of new products and work closely with the manufacturing team to optimize processes and reduce scrap rates.
  • Provide R&D support for customer complaints to enhance product quality and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with the Supply Chain to source and evaluate new suppliers, aiming to reduce raw material costs.

Education and Experience:

  • BS/MS degree in Food Science or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in R&D, preferably in food manufacturing with management experience.
  • Prior experience in the nutritional supplement, pharmaceutical, or food industries in senior management or general management roles.

Skills and Attributes:

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with all company levels via email and in person.
  • Strong leadership qualities, able to provide direction and make decisions under pressure.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Deep technical knowledge of manufacturing and packaging processes.
  • Fluency in English is required; additional language skills, such as Spanish, are a plus.
