We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Senior Site Superintendent to join our team and contribute to the success of our projects in the Dover, Delaware area.

Job Summary:

In this critical on-site leadership role, the Senior Site Superintendent will be fully responsible for the day-to-day management and successful execution of commercial multi-family construction projects within the Dover area. This requires a self-directed individual with a strong work ethic, a commitment to productivity, and the ability to independently drive project progress while upholding Whayland's standards for safety, quality, and efficiency.

Responsibilities:

  • Independent Project Oversight: Assume full responsibility for the on-site management of construction projects in Dover, demonstrating the ability to work autonomously and proactively to achieve project goals.
  • Productivity and Progress Management: Effectively manage and direct all on-site activities to ensure consistent progress and adherence to project schedules, proactively identifying and resolving any potential roadblocks.
  • Safety Leadership: Champion a strong safety culture on-site, taking direct responsibility for the supervision, direction, and safety of the work crew and rigorously enforcing all safety regulations, company policies, and OSHA standards to maintain a safe working environment for all personnel.
  • Plan and Specification Implementation: Proficiently read and interpret plans and specifications, read and correct shop drawings, and utilize and maintain the project schedule to ensure accurate construction.
  • Subcontractor and Vendor Coordination: Independently coordinate and manage the activities of subcontractors and vendors, ensuring they are performing according to the project schedule and quality standards.
  • Schedule Adherence: Develop a thorough understanding of the project schedule and proactively manage on-site activities to ensure milestones are met and the project remains on track, including contributing to three-week look-ahead scheduling in collaboration with the Project Manager.
  • Budget and Resource Management: Work collaboratively with the Project Manager to budget, forecast, and manage craft labor, equipment, materials, small tools, consumables, and the general working environment to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular and detailed site inspections to verify the quality of workmanship and ensure strict compliance with plans, specifications, and Whayland's quality standards.
  • Communication and Reporting: Maintain clear and professional communication with the project manager, subcontractors, and other stakeholders, providing regular updates on project progress and any potential issues.
  • Problem Solving: Independently identify and resolve on-site challenges and issues in a timely and effective manner, minimizing disruptions to the project schedule and budget.
  • Resource Management: Effectively manage on-site resources, including personnel, equipment, and materials, to maximize efficiency and minimize waste.
  • Documentation and Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and up-to-date project documentation, including daily reports, safety logs, and progress photos.

Qualifications:

  • Proven and demonstrable experience as a Site Superintendent in commercial construction, with a strong track record of successfully managing projects independently.
  • Exceptional ability to work autonomously, take initiative, and drive project progress with minimal direct supervision.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining a productive and focused work environment on-site.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of construction methods, materials, scheduling, and safety regulations.
  • Excellent organizational, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans and specifications, read and correct shop drawings, and utilize and maintain the project schedule.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and potentially construction management software.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record spanning a minimum of three (3) years.
  • Must have a punctual and on-time work history and be reliable, responsible, dependable, and fulfill obligations.

Physical Demands:

  • This role requires strenuous walking, standing, and/or climbing, heavy lifting and carrying.
  • The work involves working on uneven walking surfaces and on ladders and scaffolding.
  • Candidates must be capable of performing physical activities that require considerable use of your arms and legs and moving your whole body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials.
  • The role also involves using hands and arms in handling, installing, positioning, moving materials, and manipulating materials.

Environmental Conditions:  

  • The work environment may involve loud noises and/or extremes of heat or cold.
  • Employees may be required to wear protective gear that may be uncomfortable.
  • The work environment is that of a construction site.

Other Requirements:

  • Candidates may be asked to complete a Non-DOT pre-employment drug screening and adhere to The Whayland Company's drug and alcohol testing program.
  • All candidates must pass a background check to be considered for this position.
